Stepping Up for Arman and Roseline
Imagine moving to a new country where you don’t speak the language – with an 11-month-old son. Your family is not here, and you are 9 months pregnant. When you need to deliver your baby, who is going to watch your son?
That’s when New Mercies stepped up for Roseline* and Arman* recently, offering care and support at their most isolated moment. Thanks to our amazing staff and volunteers, we were able to meet this family with love and practical resources in a time of need.
The Call to Step Up
The urgent call came from a nurse at Parkview Hospital, one of our referring partners. An 11-month-old little guy we will call Arman needed a place to stay immediately. His mother, Roseline*, had just given birth to a baby girl. She had recently arrived in the U.S. from Haiti, so she had no family or caregivers available to watch Arman. The hospital consulted DCS for assistance. A nurse familiar with New Mercies then reached out to see if the ministry could step in.
The Hosting Arrangement Falls into Place
Within hours, plans were in motion. Because of the tight turnaround needed, Bonnie, New Mercies’ Executive Director, worked with Elizabeth, a Family Coach, to coordinate a hosting arrangement. Staff went to the hospital and used a hospital interpreter to facilitate the necessary paperwork with Roseline. Despite the language barrier, the team worked tirelessly to ensure Arman could be matched with a Host Family while his mother recovered. By the end of the night, Arman was safely in the care of Host Mom Flora and her family, giving Roseline the support she needed during this critical time.

Hosting Arman was a joy from the start. Flora marveled at his easygoing nature. “He was so loving, trusting, and snuggly,” she shared. Flora’s family cherished the short but impactful time they had with him, sensing God’s hand in the trust this little boy placed in them. Reflecting on the experience, Flora said, “It was everything that New Mercies should be.”
A Family Reunited
When the hosting arrangement ended, Roseline returned home from the hospital, now with both her children in her care. Arman reunited with his mom and baby sister after only a few days of hosting.

New Mercies exists to step into the gap for families with nowhere else to turn, offering practical care and compassionate connections. In situations like Roseline’s, the ministry provides a tangible expression of Christ’s love, ensuring families are supported and children remain with their parents whenever possible. Moments like these are at the heart of our mission—bringing hope, stability, and care to vulnerable families.
